Digital mapping project about Louisiana slave conspiracies

3c11153rFrom January to May of 2018, I worked as an undergraduate researcher for a digital mapping project under Patty Frontiera at UC Berkeley’s D-Lab, a data-focused research lab. I closely read translated testimonies given by slaves accused of conspiring to revolt, extracted demographic and geographic data from these testimonies using MAXQDA and drafted network visualizations for an interactive map.

The project is ongoing, and the data will be incorporated into a Drupal-based cartographic archive that will follow the key players in a series of slave revolts in Pointe Coupee, Louisiana.
